 A �32.6m Civic Hub will be built in Corby |
A �50m regeneration landmark buildings project to transform Corby has been given the go-ahead by councillors. A �32.6m Civic Hub and an �18m 50-metre international pool will be built in the Northamptonshire town as part of the Parkland Gateway development.
The Civic Hub will include a theatre, library and restaurant, while the pool complex could become a regional centre of excellence.
Construction work will begin on both sites in early February.
The mirrored glass Civic Hub, which will be set in the centre of the new town square, is due to open in 2009 while the pool plans to open in late 2008.
Councillor Pat Fawcett, leader of Corby Borough Council, said: "I'm delighted for the people of Corby who need and deserve the best leisure and cultural facilities.
"The pool and the hub are both striking buildings which will be real symbols of the regeneration of the town centre, and Corby as a whole."
The overall plans for the development of the Parkland Gateway also includes �2m to improve and secure the future of the borough's woodland, including a commitment to plant more than 400 locally sourced native trees.
