Roadmender has lost its Arts Council grant |
A music venue in Northampton is set to lose its 58,000 grant from the county council, it has been announced. Northamptonshire County Council is recommending that its cabinet committee stop the annual grant to the Roadmender centre in the town.
After a review of the venue's business plan, the council said on Friday it does not have enough confidence in the viability of the business.
The cabinet committee will make a final decision on 14 November.
Councillor Rosemary Bromwich, cabinet member responsible for community services, said: "After a full review of the venue's business plan we have come to the conclusion that we cannot continue to commit public money."
Earlier Roadmender's director Jon Gloersen told the BBC that the county had been a great support to the venue, but it would be left in a "difficult position" if funds were cut.
"We're showing excellent growth and financial performance at the moment, but we'll need the county on board now in order to stabilise after the funding from Arts Council disappears," he said.
Roadmender, which organises community projects as well as promoting top rock bands, recently lost its 110,000 annual Arts Council grant.
