The scheme aims to uncover possible future chart-topping acts |
Libraries in Northamptonshire are giving talented musicians the chance to unleash their work onto a whole new group of listeners. County bands can now have their albums stocked on library shelves along side some of the biggest names in pop, rock jazz, funk and R&B.
The "Homegrown" scheme encourages the bands to put their tracks onto CD.
The best albums will then be available for loan firstly at central library in Northampton and then at other branches.
As part of the scheme, supported by music venue Roadmender, flyers will be handed out to bands at Friday night gigs.
Cllr Peter Dixon, of Northamptonshire County Council, said: "This is a great way to nurture local talent and help promote the music being played in and around Northamptonshire today.
"There'll be a dedicated area in central library where everyone can see and borrow the CDs.
"We'll also be looking at having a regular featured band as well as a monthly top ten listing, based on how many times any one CD has been borrowed."
