Fire services plan 'partnerships'
Fire control room
Northants and Leics fire and emergency services look for partnerships
A plan for Northants and Leicester fire and rescue services to work closer together has been denounced as an exercise in job cuts.

The chief officers of both services have confirmed they are looking at a possible partnership.

They will be launching a feasibility project to research ways of improving joint efficiency.

Fire Brigades Union leaders in both counties fear jobs will be lost because the overall aim is an efficiency boost.

The chief officers from both counties confirm that they are beginning talks to examine where they can partner up to make efficiency savings.

They stress this work will not impact on their ability to respond to emergency incidents.

The Fire Brigades Union said: "Putting it simply it means job losses".

Plans to merge Northamptonshire and Leicestershire's control rooms were abandoned last week.
