Fire control centre move debated
Fire control room
The move is designed to save money
Lincolnshire firefighters could soon receive their orders from staff based in Leicester.

Councillors on Tuesday will discuss plans to merge the county's control room with Northamptonshire and Leicestershire fire services.

The Fire Brigades Union has criticised the plans, saying the important local knowledge of staff based at South Park in Lincoln will be lost.

There are also concerns that jobs could be lost.

'Significant tasks'

The move is designed to increase efficiency and save money.

But Lincolnshire's Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mike Thomas, insisted they would try to avoid redundancies.

He said: "It's expected there will be a minimum amount of disruption.

"But there will be a significant amount of continued employment and there are a significant number of tasks that need to be done throughout the fire brigades.

"When we get down to detail we will analyse what these are and offer staff the best opportunities that are going."
