It will cost 95,000 to transform the North Bay |
Plans for a 95,000 piece of public art could transform Scarborough's North Bay if they get the go-ahead from councillors. Known as the Scarborough Wave, the sculpture would consist of 21, 10m high spurs with blue LED lights on the top.
Each prong of the sculpture would also be tuned so that when the wind blows through it, a note is emitted.
It is hoped the project will attract national attention and mark the start of regeneration in the resort.
Exciting project
Eileen Bosomworth, leader of Scarborough council, said she believed the scheme could benefit Scarborough.
She said: "It is definitely a new and exciting project that is adding value to Scarborough.
"We have a natural setting here and we are sending out a message that we are looking at this in a different way and looking forward."
Artists Jim Waygood and Terry Eaton have designed the feature.
Mr Eaton said: "We drew on the experience of the site. Here has seen years of huge waves and storms which is what inspired us."
Mr Waygood added: "It will be a sea symphony with the sounds it makes and no one visit will sound the same."
A model of the work has gone on show at Scarborough's Corner Complex.
