The railings are nearly 100 years old |
Residents in Scarborough are concerned about a plan to replace railings with a one-metre high sea defence wall. The railings have been on Marine Drive for nearly 100 years.
Now Scarborough Council wants to put up the a wall as part of a 26m sea defence project.
But some residents have said the development will ruin the view from Marine Drive.
Sea levels
They have also expressed safety concerns saying people might cycle or sit on the wall.
But with rising sea levels, the council feels that a wall is the only option.
Councillor Godfrey Allanson said: "I understand that people have some concerns.
"But without the wall it won't be a case of losing a bit of the view, we probably won't have a view."
The building of the new wall is due to begin in the summer.
