Evening parking charges have proved unpopular |
Changes to York's controversial evening car parking charges are expected to be approved at a meeting on Tuesday. But leading councillors are expected to resist calls for parking after 1800 BST in the city centre to again be free.
The council is proposing to replace the evening hourly charge with a flat-rate ticket costing 1 for York residents.
It has been claimed that bars and restaurants in the city centre have lost money since the evening charges started in March.
Concessions welcomed
Residents and businesses are expected to lobby Tuesday evening's meeting.
Their spokesman - Brian Anderson - said he welcomed the concessions but still wanted the charges scrapped altogether.
"A number of restaurants have told me their takings are down by 25%," he said. "The town is dying."
One other concession likely to be approved at the council meeting is to keep the Askham Bar park and ride buses running until after 2300 BST.
If the changes are approved by the full council they will come into force in November.
