The new Tesco plan is smaller and closer to Sheringham town centre
Tesco has revealed artist's impressions of a controversial store it wants to build in Sheringham.
The supermarket has submitted plans, which were reduced in size in April, to North Norfolk District Council.
Tesco has attempted to open in Sheringham for 13 years, with the most recent plans rejected in September after a planning inquiry.
Campaigners claim Tesco would threaten existing traders, while the supermarket says people want a store in the town.
The Tesco store plan has divided opinion in the town
It said more than 1,500 supporters of a Sheringham Tesco had contacted them since January.
Resort's character
Nick Gellatly, from Tesco, said: "We are submitting these plans because so many people want a Tesco in Sheringham.
"Over the years thousands have told us they need a decent sized supermarket.
"We will also build a new fire station and community centre."
The shop will provide 150 jobs and include small shop units for other businesses along a new walkway leading to Station Road.
Last year's planning inquiry in to a previous proposal concluded benefits created by the shop would be outweighed by damage to the resort's character.
The Sheringham Campaign Against Major Retail Development is concerned about the effect of a large store on small traders in the seaside resort and about the impact of traffic on roads that are busy in the summer months.
