The celebrations will centre on the August Bank Holiday weekend |
More than 300 street and community parties are among a series of events planned in Liverpool to mark the city's 800th birthday next month. The city celebrates its anniversary on 28 August but events will kick off four days earlier with the start of the annual Mathew Street Festival.
Bank Holiday Monday will see hundreds of community parties staged, followed by a host of events on Tuesday.
There will be a civic procession, a pageant, music and fireworks.
The pageant will feature more than 800 performers in costume representing icons past and present from the city and the firework display is set to involve many of Liverpool's historic buildings.
The celebrations mark the 800th anniversary of King John granting the city its first charter.
