A �5.5bn plan to turn Liverpool into an international-standard waterside destination has been drawn up. Details of how the 150 acre (1.9m sq m) project will look will be unveiled by Peel Developments next week.
The firm is also planning a scheme for the Wirral side of the river, bringing their investment total to �10bn.
Peel, which already owns much of the waterfront and John Lennon Airport, claims the proposals could help the city rival New York or Shanghai.
The scheme would see Liverpool become the "ocean gateway to the North West", it said.
The separate Wirral Waters project will see more than 500 acres of brownfield land redeveloped into retail and leisure facilities.
A new marina and pedestrian footbridge linking both sides of the river are also among the Wirral plans.
Peel said the two developments combined represent the biggest investment of its kind in the North West for a century.
