Elderly warned over bogus callers
Front door
Three incidents were reported in a week, police say
Elderly people in Cheshire are being warned to check the identity of strangers who call at their doors after a spate of distraction burglaries.

There were three incidents of bogus callers reported last week, in Northwich, Wincham and Ellesmere Port.

The callers posed as a water board representative and a car insurance salesman, police said.

"Genuine callers won't mind if you ask them for ID," Community Safety Network Officer Dave Owens said.

"Our advice is to never agree to have work of any type done by someone who cold calls.

"No contracts should be signed, no cash handed over, no agreement of any type should be made with someone who knocks at the door."

Detectives say they receive hundreds of calls each day from people worried about people acting suspiciously in their neighbourhood.
