Police to send burglars packing
Distraction burglaries in Derbyshire are being targeted by a new initiative.

Police have produced new information packs giving advice to residents on how to combat the problem.

They are being delivered to areas where there has been an increase in distraction burglaries and bogus callers in the last few months.

Safety officer Marilyn Barratt said: "We hope that the information in the packs will make residents feel less intimidated on their doorstep."

'Very convincing'

The packs highlight the lengths criminals will go to when tricking their way into people's homes.

"The packs help make residents aware that burglars and bogus callers have been active in their area," said Ms Barratt.

"They also provide advice to people in the event they are faced with an unexpected caller on their doorstep.

"Bogus callers can be very convincing and often claim to be from the council, police or utility companies such as the water board.

"They sometimes wear uniforms and may carry false ID cards."
