The BBC is increasing the number of jobs being moved from London to the north-west of England. More journalists from Radio 5 Live and two other departments are being relocated to the mediacity:uk development at Salford Quays.
Original plans for 1,500 jobs at the site, scheduled for completion in 2011, have been increased to more than 1,620.
About 800 staff members currently based at the BBC in Manchester are moving to the site.
Caroline Thomson, chief operating officer of the BBC, said the increased numbers would help "strengthen" Salford's position as a network centre.
Radio 5 Live news will now join other programmes from the radio station in Salford and there will be an increased number of national newsgathering journalists.
More staff from BBC Future Media & Technology, which leads the development of content across the internet, digital TV and mobile phones, are also being moved.
