The Salford Quays site has received planning permission |
The plans for developing the site of the BBC's proposed new Salford Quays base have been given the go-ahead by the city council. Planning approval has been granted to Peel Media, which owns the site, to build three mixed-use buildings.
The centrepiece of the development will be a public piazza twice the size of Trafalgar Square.
The BBC is expected to make the site its new base in the North - subject to final approval by the BBC Trust.
Mediacity:uk, who are managing the project, said these are "three flagship buildings" on the site.
The development will be the first phase of the development which is planned to cover 200 acres and will hope to attract several media companies, including the BBC.
