Metrolink route shuts for repairs
Manchester tram
The work is expected to be finished by September
Parts of the Greater Manchester tram network are closed to allow worn-out track to be replaced.

The Metrolink line from Bury to Manchester Victoria will be completely closed for seven weeks from Monday.

Nearly 20 miles of track is being replaced between Bury and Altrincham over the summer, as part of a 100m improvement programme.

Commuters will be offered a replacement bus service until the work is completed in September.

Some of the track which is being replaced is more than 50 years old.

Replacement buses

The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive said it should mean passengers get a smoother, quieter and more reliable journey.

Work started earlier this month to replace worn-out tracks on the line between Altrincham and Old Trafford.

Replacement bus services will run on the affected Metrolink route and extra train carriages are running in rush-hour between Altrincham and Manchester.

Trams will continue to run between Old Trafford and Manchester until the end of July before the whole of the line from Altrincham to Cornbrook closes for most of August.
