Tram disruption over rail works

The Bury to Altrincham line will be closed for seven weeks
Commuters are facing months of disruption as improvement work begins on Greater Manchester's Metrolink.

The scheme means replacing 20 miles of worn-out track, some of which is more than 50 years old.

The Bury Interchange and Radcliffe stops are the first to close with a bus service running to Whitefield.

The 100m project also includes new trams and upgrades to stops. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) said the work was necessary because of the age of some of the track.

Various parts of the Bury to Altrincham line will close between the end of May and mid-September, but the line will be completely closed between Bury and Manchester Victoria for seven weeks from 23 July.

The section of track between Altrincham and Cornbrook will also be closed for a month from 27 July.
