Free swimming for children offer
Swimming pool - generic
More than 7,500 children have signed up for the scheme
Children under 16 have been told they can swim for free as part of a local authority's drive to combat obesity among children.

The Freestyle scheme has been set up by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT) and Wigan Council.

It is designed to encourage young people to become more physically and mentally active.

The free sessions will be on offer from 1 April at any of the borough's five public swimming pools.

More than 7,500 children have signed up for the scheme so far.
