Youngsters get free holiday swims
Free swimming during every school holiday is to be offered to children in Reading for the first time this Easter.

The council hopes the scheme will get more youngsters to take exercise, after successful pilot schemes in the North.

Under-16s are entitled to free swimming at five council leisure centres. To swim free at Rivermead, they must get a Your Reading Passport, also free.

Officials say they are worried about an eight-year gap in life expectancy between different areas of the town.

Councillor Catherine Wilton said: "I have been determined to introduce this scheme, which aims to get young people into the habit of taking regular exercise."
