Metrolink fight goes to Commons
Metrolink tram
The plans were scrapped in July due to rising costs
A top level delegation from Greater Manchester was lobbying Parliament on Wednesday to persuade the Government to fund the Metrolink tram extension.

MPs, councillors and union leaders were joined by business representatives and members of the Greater Manchester Transport Authority.

Plans for three new routes were scrapped in July due to rising costs.

Last month the government hinted that a slimmed down version of the scheme might be possible.

Councillor Roger Jones, chairman of the transport authority said he was confident the government would listen.

"It's very important that this campaign continues and we keep the pressure on ministers and Members of Parliament," he said.

"We want to demonstrate that the public of Greater Manchester are not just behind us but that support is continuing and hopefully the lobby will help with that."
