The Queen Mother wore the clothes in 1938 |
Security has been stepped up at Buckingham Palace as it opens to the public for the summer, following the London bomb attacks. And a Royal Collection spokeswoman said visitors had not been put off, with bookings on a par with last year.
The Queen Mother's "White Wardrobe" which she wore on a French visit soon after her mother's death in 1938 is among this year's attractions.
The Palace is open to visitors until late September.
The Queen is staying at her Scottish residence Balmoral for the next two months.
Sudden death
The spokeswoman said security was always high at Buckingham Palace and that airport-style scanners and bag checks were in place as in previous years.
Visitors have access to 19 state rooms, and the Palace garden.
The White Wardrobe is on display in the Ball Supper Room.
The late Queen Mother had postponed her visit to France after the sudden death of her mother the Countess of Strathmore.
Designer Norman Hartnell had to redesign her colourful wardrobe for the trip and decided on white, which was used as a sign of grief by French Queens until the 17th Century.
