1,000 extra officers target crime
Drug dealers are among those being targeted in a one-day crime crackdown.

An extra 1,000 Met officers will be involved in helping to reduce crime in Hackney, Haringey, Barnet, Waltham Forest and Enfield, in north London.

The aim is to reduce all types of crime across the boroughs by gathering information on criminals and ensuring officers are noticeable on the streets.

The co-ordinated crackdown will be repeated on the first Tuesday of each month until July.

'Sharing information'

Tactics used include using airport-style metal search arches in various locations, checking cars to target known criminals, drugs dogs at Tube and train stations to target dealers and suppliers, and drug raids on various addresses.

Teams will consist of police officers, Police Support Community Officers, special constables and community wardens in the initiative called Operation Resolve.

The Territorial Support Group (TSG), the British Transport Police, Transport for London, bailiffs, police dogs, and the Air Support Unit will also be involved.
