Thousands expected at London Mela
Dancers at the London Mela 2003
About 60,000 attended last year's mela
A free one-day festival which celebrates South Asian culture and is expected to attract tens of thousands is under way.

The highlights of this year's London Mela include performances from Bollywood singing legend Usha Uthup.

The event at Gunnersbury Park, Pope's Lane, west London, has 12 zones which include a circus, comedy and arts.

The mela - which means "meeting" in Sanskrit - began at noon and ends at 2045 BST on Sunday.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone, who is supporting the event for the third year with Ealing and Hounslow Councils, said it had become a cultural highlight of the summer.

Last year about 60,000 people attended the event.
