Men guilty of 'motiveless attack'
Pauline Peart
Ms Peart died of a single gunshot wound
Two men have been found guilty of the murder of a successful banker shot dead in an apparently motiveless attack.

Pauline Peart, 25, from Waltham Abbey, Essex, was shot in the back as she sat in her Audi TT convertible in a street in Tottenham, north London.

A jury at the Old Bailey heard Miss Peart died within minutes.

Maurice Miller, 21, and Nebra Bennett, 24, both of north London, had denied Miss Peart's murder in March 2003. They will be sentenced on Friday.

There does not appear to be any apparent motive for shooting her
Orlando Pownall QC, prosecuting

Prosecutor Orlando Pownall QC said Miss Peart, who did not know either defendant, was in the car talking to her friend, Yemmi Johnson, as he sat in the passenger seat.

The car window was partially open.

"Miller shot her using the gun which police eventually recovered from a bin at his address.

"There does not appear to be any apparent motive for shooting her," said Mr Pownall.

Miss Peart, who lived on her own in Waltham Abbey, Essex, was a customer account manager with Beneficial Finance, in north London.

Gun barrel

Mr Johnson told police three youths walked past them in Hampden Road, Tottenham, north London, at around 2330 BST.

A few minutes later he saw a youth with a white top who appeared to be trying to open the driver's door.

Mr Pownall said: "The door was locked but the window was slightly open.

"The youth was crouching and looking in. He saw the barrel of a gun through the aperture.

"Understandably, Mr Johnson ducked down. He heard a shot and screamed to Miss Peart to start the car.

"She arched her back and began convulsing."
