Gritters are working to get the county roads cleared

Heavy snowfall, icy roads and freezing temperatures forced the closure of eight schools in Lincolnshire.

Up to 10cm of snow fell in parts of the county and more was expected to fall on through Tuesday night.

Temperatures may fall as low as -3C over the next 24 hours, the Met Office said. More heavy snow is expected in Lincolnshire in the next few weeks.

Motorists across the county have reported icy conditions on some side roads making travelling difficult.

Among the schools closed was St Lawrence Special School in Horncastle.

Around 10 cm had been expected to fall through the day across Lincolnshire, the Met Office said.

Lincolnshire County Council said the gritters were treating the county's roads round the clock.
