Schools close as snow hits parts of Lincolnshire

A number of schools were closed and commuters faced hazardous road conditions after snow fell in parts of Lincolnshire.

Forecasters were expecting up to 10cm (3.9in) of snow to fall as the weather front swept across the region.

The worst affected areas were around Spalding and Boston with motorists facing slippery conditions.

Lincolnshire Police said there were 14 car accidents in one hour. Ten schools closed because of the weather.

Police spokesman James Newell said none of the accidents reported had been serious.

"There are a lot of issues and resources are pretty stretched at the moment," he said.

"The worst hit areas are the rural ones around Spalding, Grantham and Stamford."
