City mulls over military festival
Military Tattoo
Officials said the event would be a tribute to the armed forces
A multi-million pound military festival could come to Lincoln if residents back the idea.

The event, which would be modelled on the Edinburgh Tattoo, has been proposed by the leader of the city council, councillor Eddie Strengiel.

Mr Strengiel said the event could bring millions into the economy and put Lincoln on the festival map.

But officials want to gauge public opinion before committing time and resources to taking the plan further.

The Edinburgh Tattoo features pipes and drums, massed military bands, display teams, dancers and acts from all around the world.

Military links

Mr Strengiel said Lincoln Castle would provide a suitable backdrop to a similar show but it was vital to get resident's backing.

"I do think this type of event could appeal to lots of people and could easily over time become one of the largest military shows in England," he said.

"Since the early 19th Century Lincoln has had strong links with the armed forces.

"What better way to strengthen these important links and improve what we have to offer residents and visitors at the same time."
