City tracks close for 55m revamp
Passengers are being asked to be patient as railway tracks through Lincoln are closed for the next three weeks as part of a 55m revamp.

Network Rail said the project was the biggest investment in the county's rail system for more than 40 years.

New track and signalling running through the city centre will be installed during the first phase.

No trains will run from Lincoln until 3 September but replacement bus services have been laid on.

'Minimal disruption'

Central Trains will replace services running between Lincoln and Newark, Gainsborough, Cleethorpes and Spalding with buses which will call at local stations in between.

Faster, direct commuter buses will run between Sleaford and Lincoln at peak times.

Some level crossings in the city will be closed to motorists and pedestrians at certain times as the work is carried out.

A Network Rail spokesperson said the company had listened to passengers to ensure the work could be carried out with minimal disruption.

He added: "In the long term Network Rail's investment in new technology and track will benefit passengers by allowing for a better rail service."
