City station in line for makeover
Lincoln railway station
Improvements will limit who can gain access to the platform
Major changes to Lincoln's railway station have been announced.

New ticket barriers will be the centrepiece of a refurbishment which will include new toilet facilities and a renovation of the ticket hall.

As well as improving the surroundings, the changes are designed to cut down on vandalism and improve safety.

Officials said passengers should expect some disruption during the work but extra staff will be in place to make sure problems were minimised.

Nigel Carlisle, route manager for Central Trains, said: "This will mean improved security because only those travelling or those helping them will be on the platforms.

"And, of course, the work on the toilets and waiting room will significantly improve the experience for customers."

If present plans are approved, the work should be completed by the end of October.
