Central Trains strike called off

The dispute had involved conductors and station staff
A series of strikes by Central Trains staff have been called off following talks between unions and management.

The six days of industrial action, starting this Saturday and continuing for three weekends, had aimed to hit services across the Midlands.

The dispute, involving Rail and Maritime Transport Workers' (RMT) members, was over conductors and station staff's terms and conditions.

The dispute was settled following talks on Tuesday.

'Services as normal'

"Both sides were very close, the talks were very fruitful and we were able to come to an agreement," said Ged Burgess of Central Trains.

"It'll mean no disruption for passengers, which is good news particularly in the first week of the school holidays.

"In the good weather people have been travelling a lot more to the seaside. People can now go away being sure they won't be inconvenienced."

Dave Jones, a union spokesman, said: "We've been able to secure the terms and conditions we wanted for our members and avoid any disruption for travellers. It'll be services as normal."
