Three elderly people who died from carbon monoxide poisoning at a house in Lincolnshire, should have had their gas boiler checked, a coroner has said. Barbara and Alan Read, 80 and 81, and friend Cyril Francis, 79, were found dead in the Reads' living room in North Hykeham in January.
The coroner at Lincoln Crown Court said poor ventilation of a 36-year-old boiler led to a build-up of toxic gas.
All three pensioners' deaths were recorded as accidental.
The coroner stressed the importance of having gas appliances regularly checked and highlighted the need for carbon monoxide monitors to alert people to leaks of the colourless, odourless and potentially fatal gas.
Mr and Mrs Read's family said they hoped their relatives' deaths could prevent further tragedies involving carbon monoxide.
