Waiting list for new allotments
A passion for the peace and quiet of gardening is fuelling an upsurge in the popularity of allotments, according to a Lincolnshire parish council.

High demand for the amenity has meant a whole field in Deeping St James is to be handed over to enthusiasts.

An original 62 plots were snapped up in a matter of months and there is already a waiting list for the new ones.

The parish council says that while families do not need to grow food, they still enjoy it as a hobby.

A local council is obliged to consider providing allotments if enough residents register an interest

Parish clerk, Sue Valentine, said: "One of the nice things is the number of young families that go and use them.

"We also have the more traditional, older, people but it seems to be something the children can enjoy as well."
