Lincolnshire councillors have recommended an extra �1.5m be spent on easing traffic problems in Boston. It follows criticism that the county council was not doing enough to deal with the congestion.
Boston councillors have complained to county highways managers about a lack of "solid plans" to reduce congestion.
The county executive has now recommended that more money is spent on the outcomes of a transport study in the town.
Bypass wanted
More than �300,000 has also been set aside for the study itself, which is due to start in the spring.
Highway managers say the additional funding shows they are committed to resolving the problems.
The money is on top of �10m set aside to support economic development work in Boston.
There has been a long-running campaign to take the A16 and A52 traffic out of town.
Boston is one of the few towns in the county to suffer with congestion as most have some form of bypass or relief road.
