A mother whose son had an addiction to heroin for 10 years says alarming drug death rates in Lincolnshire do not reveal the true extent of the problem. A new report shows Boston and Spalding have the third highest drug death rates in the country.
The two towns last year had 12 drug-related deaths, higher than most major cities in the country.
They are exceeded nationally by only Brighton and East Lancashire, when comparing population and drug deaths.
Linda Bradley, whose son was a drug addict - and is now in recovery - says all drug related deaths need to be considered, and suggests the figures could be even worse than they appear.
She told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "The drug-related death figures also ought to include people who committed suicide as they cannot stand living in their drug world."
She said the figures should also include people who have died from overdoses of pain killers and driving offences where drugs are involved.
She said: "It is quite a big issue and the figures need to be looked at correctly."
