Both projects were supported by planners

Councillors from East Lindsey district council voted against the proposals at a meeting on Thursday evening.

Both wind farm projects were rejected despite support from the council's planning officials.

Ecotricity had applied to build eight wind turbines at Bamber's Farm in Mablethorpe, where two of the turbines are already in operation.

The councillors were concerned the turbines would have a negative visual impact on the area.

Farmer disappointed

East Lindsey director of planning Stephen Williamson, said: "We recommended approval because we felt government policy supported use of environmentally friendly energy out-weighted local concerns."

A further 20 turbines were planned for Orby Marsh near Skegness, but this proposal was also turned down.

Farmer Mark Cauldwell, who wanted to put the turbines on land near a stock car stadium, presented a petition from more than 1,000 residents who supported the plan.
