The firm will build eight turbines in Lincolnshire

A planning inspector has ruled that the land at Deeping St Nicholas in the Lincolnshire Fens would not be "unacceptably changed" by the eight wind turbines.

Plans to build the eight-turbine wind farm had prompted opposition from people living nearby.

South Holland District Council had already refused the application from Wind Prospect Developments because of concerns over potential harm caused to the open land and skyscape.

300-foot turbines

But Nicholas Watts, who owns the land where the turbines will be built, says the environmental issues are more important than worries about the visual impact.

An inspector ruled that the turbines had been designed to be "in keeping with the grain and pattern of the area".

Local residents had campaigned against the application, saying the 300-feet turbines would ruin the local landscape.

Delia Williams, from Deeping St Nicholas, said earlier: "It will ruin the whole vista and the Fens will be peppered with them."

The district council has said it hopes the decision will not lead to many more applications.
