Police have launched a new crackdown on drink-fuelled anti-social behaviour in a Leicestershire town. Officers said there would be high visibility patrols in Loughborough's 'no alcohol zone' during the summer.
The zone covers the town centre and includes Ashby Road up to its junction with Storer Road.
A police spokesperson said drinkers would have alcohol confiscated and could face prosecution if they refused to hand over their drink.
Sgt Ian Stone, said: "Officers will talk to and deal with anyone caught drinking alcohol in the streets.
"Not only do we hope this will promote responsible drinking it should help to get across crime prevention and personal safety messages and reduce incidents of violent crime."
