Drinking ban in village streets
A ban on drinking alcohol in the street has been introduced in a North Yorkshire village.

Anyone found drinking in Copmanthorpe, near York - with the exception of those at licensed premises - will have their drinks confiscated.

Those who refuse to surrender their drink to police could be arrested.

Signs have been put up at the entrance to the village to warn people of the ban, which was introduced to tackle problems with anti-social behaviour.

John Lacey, licensing manager for City of York Council, said: "There was overwhelming support from residents for the exclusion zone, especially those living in the Low Green whose lives had been blighted by drink-related anti-social behaviour.

"The creation of the zone is a good example of the council, police and residents working together to combat anti-social behaviour."
