Village wins incinerator debate
A Leicestershire village is claiming a victory for people power after successfully battling plans to build an incinerator near their homes.

Kibworth is already home to a county council-run tip and it was initially suggested as an incinerator site.

But locals vowed to fight the plans all the way, citing problems with pungent smells and heavy traffic.

The council has now published a new review of waste management and the Kibworth site has been shelved.

Local councillor Eileen Rober said: "I really do think this is people power in action. All my residents got together and screamed blue murder and as a consequence I do believe the area is safer."

The council said it was working on a strategy to deal with the four million tonnes of rubbish generated each year.
