Plans to radically overhaul Loughborough town centre over the next 15 years have been announced. The Charnwood Borough Council master plan outlines two key strands of development - reducing traffic and boosting living standards for locals.
The document suggests ways of improving cleanliness and safety along with encouraging public transport use and the monitoring of building designs.
The draft plan comes after plans for an inner relief road (IRR) were announced.
Congestion could be reduced with the IRR, with several areas also earmarked for pedestrianisation.
The needs of students and other residents will also be addressed with restrictions to be introduced on town centre accommodation.
Councillors say residents should feel safe using the town centre both in the day and at night.
Residents and town centre users are being consulted about the plans.
