Signs directing people to Lincoln's new museum will not be in place in time for its opening this weekend. Road signs are already in place for the new venue - The Collection - and the city's cultural and cathedral quarters.
But Lincoln City Council admitted there are delays with the 70 signs to help pedestrians find their way.
The council said there have been delays because of "unforeseen circumstances" and most will be up within three weeks, and all by the end of the year.
They are being put up as part of a project lasting two years and costing more than 100,000.
Historical artefacts
The venue, which replaces other museums in the city, is set to finally open at the weekend after a series of delays to the project.
Some delays were caused by the finding of historical artefacts on the site.
The project, previously known as the City and County Museum, was part-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and East Midlands Development Agency.
It includes the Usher gallery in buildings near Lincoln Cathedral. The Collection includes artefacts from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, plus Roman, Saxon, Viking and Medieval eras.
