Museum ready for final farewell

Exhibits will be transferred to a new site opening in spring 2005
A Lincoln museum will close its doors for the last time on Saturday after being open for nearly 100 years.

The Greyfriars Exhibition Centre in Lincoln opened in 1906.

It is closing because the exhibits are being transferred across the road to the new City and County Museum, which is due to open in spring 2005.

The building will be handed back to its owners Lincoln City Council on 1 November 2004, but it is not clear how it will be used in the future.

County councillor Brian Knight said: "Greyfriars has been a superb exhibition centre for the people of Lincolnshire, especially for schoolchildren over the years.

"Before we leave Greyfriars I would like to pay tribute to the dedication and hard work of all the County's Cultural Services staff who have staged such excellent displays and events at the venue."
