Roman relic opens to the public
People in Lincoln are being given a rare opportunity to see one of the city's archaeological treasures.

The Fourth Century Roman Posterngate, is hidden beneath buildings on Bank Street, but will open on Saturday to allow access to the public.

The Roman relic is rarely open to public viewing, in order to help preserve the site.

Anthony Lea, from the City and County Museum, said because of its location, many people do not know it is there.

Lincoln, known in Roman times as Lindum, was founded in the mid 1st Century AD.

In Roman times the gateway was along the waterfront, which would have been busy with trading activities.

It is open to the public between 1000BST and 1600 BST on Saturday, with tours every 20 minutes.
