Nearly �1m has been earmarked for a project to cut the risk of flash flooding in several Leics villages. The work will take place in several areas, including Swithland Lane in Rothley and Main Street in Swithland, to protect hundreds of homes.
Charnwood Borough Council has put forward the �920,000 plan to cut the risk of flooding in areas with a history of problems.
The borough council says it hopes to finish the work by 2007.
The Environment Agency is responsible for overseeing major rivers like the Soar, but the borough council can act when minor water courses are causing problems.
The work will include diverting and rebuilding water courses and drainage systems as well as increasing water storage capacity.
