 Multiple flood warnings are in force |
Torrential rain has caused major problems in Nottinghamshire, with the fire service receiving 371 flood-related calls on Monday and Tuesday. Parts of Newark and Sherwood were on flood alert and fire crews said drains could not handle sudden downpours.
Around 13,000 people camping out at a religious festival at the Newark Showground, were forced to leave.
Leisure centres in Balderton and Southwell provided temporary accommodation for the campers.
Store reopens
In Derbyshire, the Asda superstore in Long Eaton had to close temporarily because of overnight flooding but reopened on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire services in the county also report being besieged by flood-related calls, with numerous requests for sandbags.
Police said the water had even lifted tarmac off the roads in some parts of the county.
People using campsites, particularly in the High Peak area, are being warned to be aware of the threat from rivers.
Flood Warnings are in force for the Churnet at Rocester, the Rivers Dove, Erewash, and Wye, the River Trent near Burton and the Picknall Brook at Uttoxeter.
Heavy rain
Lincolnshire Fire Service says it received around 140 calls overnight related to the heavy rain, mostly in the Grantham and Gainsborough areas.
There is a flood warning in force on the River West Glen in Corby Glen, close to the A151 near Grantham.
There was also extensive flooding in Leicestershire and Rutland.
The River West Glen burst its banks near Essendine, and parts of Loughborough, Melton, Market Harborough, and Leicester were also affected.
Many shop keepers in Market Harborough are experiencing the third bout of flooding in two weeks.
A flood alleviation scheme is due to start in the town over the next few months.
