Emergency service gets top marks
Leicester Royal Infirmary's accident and emergency department has been rated as one of the top five in the country.

It has exceeded government targets for dealing with emergency patients by treating 99% of all accident and emergency cases within four hours.

The hospital was placed 4th out of the 158 emergency departments in the country and was awarded 100,000 in extra funding as a result.

The University Hospitals of Leicester Trust praised its staff for their work.

The government target calls for 97% of accident and emergency patients to be treated and discharged within four hours.

The trust expects to see more than 11,000 patients in its emergency department this month, compared to 9,156 compared to the same period last year.
