Thieves steal hospital equipment
Appointments have been cancelled at a Leicester hospital after thieves stole vital equipment.

A blood pressure monitor and other equipment were taken from the gastroenterology department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Doctors say they are appalled at the theft, and staff are having to work twice as hard to ensure no more patients are affected.

The city's two other hospitals have loaned equipment to the LRI.

Police appeal

A silver light source control box, plastic tubing and a colonoscope and a gastroscope were also taken on the weekend of 18-19 September.

Leicestershire Pc Steve Wilson said: "As a result of the burglary, a number of appointments had to be cancelled and patients were inconvenienced."

He asked anyone who was asked to buy the items to contact him.

Dr John Caestecker from the hospital's gastroenterology department said: "I am appalled by the actions of those who have stolen this vital equipment.

"Managers are identifying ways to replace the stolen equipment but until then, the hospital departments will continue to co-operate fully with each other to ensure patient services are affected as little as possible."
