The centre cost 10m to construct |
A 10m state-of-the-art sporting complex that faced opposition from local residents opens on Monday. The Braunstone Leisure Centre replaces the St Margaret's Baths and Granby Halls, which were located in Leicester city centre but closed four years ago.
Some people were upset at the decision to build the centre in Braunstone.
Leicester has not had a city centre swimming pool and indoor sporting facility since the closure of the baths in 2000.

The facility includes two swimming pools, gymnasium, crche, six-court sports hall, and caf.
The pool has a moveable floor which can be adjusted for scuba diving, competitive swimming and synchronised swimming.
The project, built with investment from Sport England, Braunstone Community Association and Leicester City Council, has taken more than 19 months to complete.
The new centre will also feature a glass artwork that depicts trees found on Braunstone Park.
It was completed following consultation with local people in the area.
