A regeneration scheme in Leicestershire is being put under the spotlight by inspectors looking at how it has been spending 50m of government money. The Braunstone Community Association (BCA) has been beset by problems since it was given the New Deal funding four years ago.
Staff at the East Midlands Government Office had threatened to withdraw the money or take control of the scheme if progress was not made.
Despite a number of changes in leadership, and disagreement over how it would spend the money, the BCA says it has now turned a corner.
Three quarters of the funding has now been allocated to more than 60 projects.
And on Tuesday it unveiled one its biggest projects - a health and social care centre costing more than 6m.
