Drink drive results 'disappointing'
Breath test
More then 200 drivers were tested in the county over the Bank Holiday
Tests carried out by Leicestershire Police show as many as one in 10 motorists are driving while over the limit.

Officers say they are "hugely disappointed" with the results.

The Leicestershire force took part in a European-wide drink drive campaign which ran on 8 November.

Results showed 14 of the 147, around 10%, of the people stopped and breathalysed tested positive for alcohol.

High cost

Two others were suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.

This compares to 7.6% during the last campaign, which was held over the August Bank Holiday.

Police say they are disappointed their hard-hitting campaigns have not worked, and are warning that figures like this can only lead to tragedy.

Pc John Budulis, from Leicestershire police's road policing unit, said: "One driver testing positive is one too many. We are hugely disappointed by the figures

"A drink driving conviction means that you will have a criminal record, you will not be allowed to drive for at least a year, you could lose your job.

"Your insurance costs will soar and you will have trouble hiring a car for the next 10 years.

"And that is just for testing positive, injure or kill someone and it will be much worse."
